Don’t Be A Snowflake!

[00:00:22.800]
Welcome back to another episode of the y ‘all are crazy ranch podcast. We’ve got a good one for you today another unpopular opinion our unpopular opinion episodes seem to Be very well received and so today we wanted to talk about something that’s very timely and we’re titling this one

[00:00:43.300]
Don’t be a snowflake.

[00:00:46.200]
This is very timely because we are literally about to get a snow storm here in Oklahoma.

[00:00:51.500]
Maybe.

[00:00:52.200]
That’s what they’re predicting.

[00:00:53.800]
We’ll see.

[00:00:54.300]
This has been a week long process of predictions. So we’re about to see what’s actually going to happen.

[00:01:00.500]
Yeah, we’ll see. You know, it is definitely freezing cold, high winds, but it was supposed to already be snowing and icing, but it’s not.

[00:01:09.300]
It keeps getting pushed back too, which is interesting. Now the timeline is like pushback, pushback and less than planned, less than planned. So we’ll see what happens. Hopefully when this comes out, all of you guys will know what happened, but we’re recording oklahoma grassfed beef on the Friday before the snow actually comes in and it’s supposed to start tonight. So let’s see.

[00:01:30.800]
Yeah. So the point of this podcast is going to be, you know, what did I say earlier about going in the opposite direction of…

[00:01:41.700]
The way society is trying to push you or something to that effect So yeah, we want to talk about like what you we say don’t be a snowflake that really means like don’t be weak Don’t let society tell you what to do. Don’t let excuses Rule your mindset and what you do with your life.

[00:02:00.900]
Yeah so we’re gonna talk about like several instances and areas of your life that that you need to need to keep your commitments and need to push forward and Society’s gone in such a direction that They look for any chance they can to cancel things to not go to work to not, you know Honor your commitments any excuse to cancel something

[00:02:25.300]
Society seems to like encourage that behavior and You know here in Oklahoma when when you’ve got snow and ice in the forecast it’s like the weathermen just start pounding the the airwaves and the radio and and then people start going to the grocery store and buying out all the milk and the eggs and the bread and and then schools start canceling before it stuff even happens and And then society just shuts down, you know oklahoma grassfed beef business owners that have Places that require foot traffic.

[00:02:56.200]
They start to suffer. That’s really sad I saw a post a few days ago and it was like a small oklahoma grassfed beef business owner and she said it’s really sad how all this Talk about the bad weather is basically shutting down any traffic We were gonna get for our oklahoma grassfed beef business this weekend that we depended on

[00:03:14.100]
So I don’t know there’s a difference between wanting people to be safe Obviously you want to prepare people so they do have food Yeah, and they’re aware of what’s coming and then there’s a difference in that and absolutely scaring terrifying people Well, we’ve gotten to a point now that like even if the event doesn’t happen until a certain day It’s people lose productivity and start canceling stuff like three or four days in advance It takes over their mind.

[00:03:43.500]
They’re not focused.

[00:03:45.000]
They’re starting to do other things instead of what they should have been doing And so it’s it’s got a big Impact, you know Our kids actually went to school today Thankfully, they wanted to go to school I bet they’ll be canceled a couple days next week if we do get the snow But I mean most schools I saw today went ahead and canceled. Yeah, mind you there has not been a drop of moisture

[00:04:10.500]
Yeah, and I get schools have built -in snow days and they want to use them and stuff like that But it’s like, you know next week could be a lot of snow Yeah, but here’s the other part like we had Christmas break. Yes, right and now and then they go back to school But now they can’t go till Tuesday because the teachers got to have a day on a Monday Yes, and then it was Martin Luther King day And then like it’s like the next week or the week after you have Martin Luther King days now the school’s out You have another three -day weekend deal and then now you have this and it’s like man You know, it’s hard to get much done when you you know Don’t go.

[00:04:47.900]
Yeah, it is and it’s like that with oklahoma grassfed beef businesses and a lot of areas of our life We just have found that it’s just so common to just be like let’s just close Let’s just shut down.

[00:04:59.300]
Yeah, let’s just not go, you know, and It’s just too much sometimes Well, the point of this is it’s like we’re trying to speak to people that want to be

[00:05:08.600]
Want to be successful or want to do better in certain areas of life and stuff like that Now if you don’t care, you don’t give a rip none of this even matters like you know Just stay at home and eat Cheetos and watch Netflix if that’s what you want to do But that’s not kind of who we’re trying to speak to that’s true You know what I’m saying and and I feel like the noise in society speaks so loudly To try to push you in one direction of canceling stuff Staying home all those things that we need more voices pushing against that nonsense in my opinion and and teaching people that hey, it’s okay to not listen and and keep keep Going, you know, yeah. So for us like you guys know we wrestle every Saturday

[00:05:52.700]
And so tomorrow is Saturday and we are wrestling. A lot of people would say, oh my gosh, it’s supposed to be snowing. Like, don’t go, stay home, be safe. Well, what are we gonna do if we’re home?

[00:06:07.800]
Yeah, you say.

[00:06:08.800]
Lose my mind?

[00:06:09.900]
You’re like, babe, it might be snowing, but I can’t stay home and have these kids in the house.

[00:06:17.600]
For three or four days?

[00:06:19.200]
Yeah, Saturday, Sunday.

[00:06:20.800]
Probably Monday, Tuesday.

[00:06:21.600]
Monday, Tuesday.

[00:06:22.600]
There’s no way we’re gonna keep all these. It’s not good for any of us.

[00:06:25.600]
Yeah, yeah, like we gotta at least have one day where we know for sure we’re gonna be getting out and having an activity and burning some energy. Yes. There’s a lot of truth to that.

[00:06:34.200]
Well, and we’re in a small house right now, again, and so when we’re inside, we are like this.

[00:06:41.100]
All day long, you know when we can’t go outside and most days I will tell you I Our kids are outside if it is nice maybe not like today because it’s freezing wind But if it’s not if I mean they are outside because they need it Yeah, and we had some wrestling tournaments cancelled that we had registered for Looking around and then we finally found a group that and I think really honestly it was the schools So like the the youth wrestling programs use the school facilities for these wrestling tournaments and this and then the schools You know started saying no, we’re not gonna allow you to do it But we found a group that found evidently like a big giant barn or something it’s an event center and They’re just gonna hold it there, you know And it’s like whoever’s in charge of that kudos to you for finding a way to make it happen forward Yes of it is we have regionals in like three weeks

[00:07:39.300]
And so it’s really not the time to be skipping because you want to be prepared. And so hopefully our boys continuing, not skipping a week. Hopefully when we get to regionals, that’s gonna show up.

[00:07:51.500]
You know, I just noticed this, but my coffee mug, you know, it’s got John Wayne on this side. It’s got John Wayne on this side. And then on this side it says, a man’s gotta do what a man’s gotta do. You know, and that fits perfectly with our topic today.

[00:08:03.700]
You know, we’re weird, like we totally get that. We are, I’m an Enneagram three and he’s an Enneagram eight. So we are very much like push through things kind of people and not everybody’s like that. And I get that too. But I think one of the reasons we’ve been able to be so successful in many areas and people ask us all the time, how do you guys do this, how are you successful at these things? How do you have all these kids? Like it’s a daily question at this point. And one of the main things is like, well we don’t.

[00:08:37.900]
Stop, we don’t give up. We find ways to make things work. We’re resilient.

[00:08:43.800]
We keep our commitments You don’t always have to be like the best at something But if you are committed and you’ll work harder than anybody else you can get farther yeah, and a lot of this is like like if I use an analogy of like Track runners Olympic athletes or horse racing stuff like that The the runners that get first place and the time difference between them Let’s say it’s a hundred yard dash the time difference between the first place guy and the tenth place or ninth place person is like a second right Maybe less in the horse racing. It’s it’s seconds, right? Sometimes it’s literally a nose You see I mean

[00:09:31.000]
And what people don’t understand is it’s it’s the little things that make the biggest difference your daily habits the way you view life your The days that you don’t take off because of weather or forecasted weather All those add up and sometimes those are the difference makers between winning and losing So like in my world when it snows or there’s a chance of snow a lot of insurance agents They just shut down. They look for any excuse they can to not go to the office Well, guess what happens when they’re not there and I got a full -blown staff in there just cranking right? Inevitably we sell a ton of policies You know, we have people calling I can’t get ahold of my people, you know, I need help, you know And then boom we’re there. I was like, hey

[00:10:18.400]
You know, we do, I’ll be your huckleberry. Like, we’ll help you. And we get, so those days make big impacts and big differences, and people just don’t even understand. And like I said, the difference between winning and losing sometime is literally a fraction of a second or a nose, and these little habits and how you look at life can be that big of a difference maker for you.

[00:10:40.800]
And not only that, like you’re teaching your kids with the way you live, the choices you make. They watch us, you guys. They watch what we do, and I think by showing our kids, like, no, we don’t stop, we don’t give up. And if you say you’re gonna do something, do it. Do not cancel the morning of, the night before.

[00:11:02.500]
There are grounds for that if there is like an extreme sickness or you know extreme things happen emergencies But for the most part, they’re not emergencies.

[00:11:12.900]
They’re just things you have to push through Yeah, and it’s like one of my you know other business colleagues and stuff is like he says You know if you just worked on the days you felt good You just couldn’t get much done and people will like be I don’t feel good today. I’m not gonna go It’s like man, you don’t take I mean we don’t we don’t take sick days unless it’s just I don’t even know Really bad, you know what I mean? And there might be days that you can’t get as much done because you’ve got a migraine or you’ve got a big fever But you can get some things done and then and choosing to get some things done versus nothing

[00:11:50.200]
Is one of those little moments of like difference makers for sure.

[00:11:54.700]
I think if you want to Stand out if you want to get ahead You have to do what most people are not willing to do and most people are not willing to Work on weekends or work after hours or go into work when they don’t feel 100 % and this doesn’t just apply to the workplace I think that’s important too. This applies to other things you do in life if you’re a part of a group and your groups planning to meet that day and you wake up and you you know You’ve committed to be there and maybe you just are like, I just don’t feel that great Well, you’ve committed to be there. So you still need to go

[00:12:38.200]
Because you don’t want to be that person that people are like, well, they’re unreliable, right? I can’t trust them Why would I want to like be friends with them do oklahoma grassfed beef business do business with them work with them?

[00:12:50.100]
You just that creates a reputation it does and your reputation is everything and I’m not trying to say we have the best reputation in the world but with a point of this is like You try to have the best you possibly can and you have to be intentional and a lot of these decisions you make Have an impact that people don’t even realize if you’re a person that cancels the morning of on an engagement that’s been scheduled Guess what the person you cancelled on? Probably isn’t gonna invite you back or if they do they’re gonna put you in a they’re not gonna put you in a position of priority anymore because they just can’t count on you and And then there’s gonna come a point in time where you might need something from that person or you might

[00:13:33.400]
Yeah, you might need something you might need their help you something like that You might need them to vouch for you for something and guess what? You know if they’re gonna be honest, they’re gonna have to say hey great person But if you really got to count on them for a deadline or account on them to be there They may or may not come but they’ll be there eventually and it’s like you don’t want that as your You know reference you see what I’m saying.

[00:13:59.300]
Oh for sure. Yeah, we had an event last year and it’s a big event We do it every year for Mother’s Day and our flower vendor canceled on us like the day before and it was just like oh That just kind of put us in a panic because that’s a really big deal at our event and My assistant was like, well, I guess I’ll go to Sam’s and buy flowers and tell them ourselves and we did But it was just like oh gosh. So when it came time to host it again, you know, we’re not gonna ask her No way you can’t find someone who will

[00:14:32.300]
Follow through on that commitment because if they want our business we you know, it goes both ways You have to be reliable.

[00:14:41.200]
Yeah, and like an example of what that person could have done Let’s say that they had a justified reason to not be able to bring flowers at that event You’re it that person is in charge of that commitment. They made that commitment. You guys are relying on it They they should find somebody else to get those flowers there.

[00:14:59.300]
So I have somebody that can take my place.

[00:15:01.600]
Yes So you’re not Yeah left hanging find somebody to make the delivery whatever it takes get get that commitment honored and And sometimes you do have to make adjustments like that, but you still kept your word and you still delivered Well, that’s for us too.

[00:15:19.200]
Like we’ve been promoting the whole time. We’re gonna have flowers for sale

[00:15:22.700]
And so women are expecting, I can go here and get flowers for my mom, mother -in -law, daughter. And it’s like, I don’t like to be the person who we’ve been promoting this, and then they’re not there because other people are counting on us. So okay, we’re gonna have to go the extra mile to make sure we have flowers here, but we committed to having them. So we’re gonna have them.

[00:15:44.700]
Yeah, and you made sure that they were there because you don’t wanna be the one that says, you know, sorry, and then now that makes you look unreliable. And you’re like, well, I don’t know. Can I really trust this person? Because they said they were gonna do this and then they didn’t.

[00:15:56.900]
I’ll go out of my way to make sure it’s done because, you know, my mom taught me when I was a kid, if you say you’re gonna do something.

[00:16:05.900]
Do it be a reliable person Always do what you say you’re gonna do and I follow that to a fault Like if I say I’m gonna be there you can 100 % count on the fact. I’m going to be there It’s just I that was drilled into me and I want to drill that into our kids But I found in society that is not common like most people are let’s see how I feel that day Yeah, and if I feel good and I don’t have anything else going on Or then you know had one happen to me this week and the and I asked the guy to To do something and I’ll keep it vague, but he’s like, yeah.

[00:16:40.700]
Yeah, no problem. He’s like, hey Can you can you remind me that morning, you know, and then because I you know, sometimes I can forget and I’m like You’re a grown man. You know what I mean? It’s not my job to remind you right? Okay So what does that what does that tell me about that person? It tells me that they’re not responsible

[00:17:00.300]
They don’t they don’t care enough to put it on their calendar or to write it down And then now they want me to be their assistant and remind them. Well, if I need something done later Like another thing some other time. Do you think I’m gonna really count on that person to remember and get it done if there’s a deadline? Absolutely not The reverse is true. If you keep your commitments, you know, we had a meeting with some leaders of a company this week Right. We’ll keep that kind of a but we had some some executives of a company come and meet with us and We had it on the calendar for about a week or so, I think right? Yes, you know and Did we touch base and all that to confirm and everything like multiple times? Just to make sure that we were gonna be there and they were gonna be there

[00:17:47.900]
No, we both both parties showed up and had the meeting and left so That shows them that we’re responsible and mature and can keep commitments and we also know that they can do the same You know and that and I would tell you guys this like the more I don’t know Successful you get or the more prominent positions you have in society, whatever that is When you schedule things especially long and in advance and then you just you you show up and there’s not a whole bunch of Reminders and all this stuff. It just shows that you’ve got it together and then people start to trust you more and then you start to Get more responsibilities there were more business or more whatever It makes a big difference.

[00:18:34.000]
I’ve noticed a lot in my business and once again I’ve been doing my business selling houses being a realtor for almost 14 years But I’ve always worked harder than most

[00:18:44.400]
and hustled, and when I say I’m gonna be at an appointment, I’m there, and I love sending people reminders, updates, follow -ups after we meet, and if you go that extra mile, you’re really gonna stand out. Because most people, I tell my agents, okay, think about what does the average realtor do? Well, the truth of it is they do the bare minimum. Okay, do you wanna stand out? Well, just go a step above what the average realtor does. You’re gonna stand out, and that’s not much. And that’s true in a lot of areas.

[00:19:25.300]
Yes.

[00:19:25.700]
Like, do you wanna stand out? Okay, what does the average person do that you do, no matter what your profession is?

[00:19:34.700]
do a step above that and you’re gonna stand out. It’s honestly not that hard to be successful in life right now. Just do what you say you’re gonna do and go a step above that.

[00:19:49.000]
That’s literally it. I mean, yesterday we had a call scheduled with a marketing representative from my agencies and it’s been on the calendar for over a month. Never heard from the guy.

[00:20:03.200]
Oh gosh.

[00:20:05.500]
The guy emails at like, the meeting was supposed to be at one. The guy emails at like 7 .28 p .m. You know, I tried calling the office, just couldn’t get through, you know, can we meet? And I’m like, you could, I got 20 people there.

[00:20:21.600]
You didn’t call, you know, he forgot you forgot You you can’t tell me you couldn’t get a hold of me like we got two phones two phone numbers two agencies, they’ll I was like So We’ll get a we’ll get an appointment on the calendar with that guy again But now how am I gonna view him when I go into that meeting and he’s trying to give me marketing data And all that kind of stuff Am I gonna have a lot of faith in that guy and what he’s saying use your mindset I’m gonna be like, I don’t know but I don’t know right? He’s got to go now work a whole lot harder to earn my trust back that he just broke Yeah, you see what I’m saying and people don’t think about that. They think about this short term I don’t feel that good or I’m this or this popped up and now I’m gonna go do here

[00:21:09.800]
If somebody asks you to go do something you would rather do than whatever you have on your calendar that you’ve already committed to, you have to say no to that other person because you already have the commitment. But people will take the better of the two that they like the best, but you just burn the one you had. And man, there’s a long term tail on that thing of a bad ripple effect and people don’t even realize it or think about it.

[00:21:35.100]
Well, and it goes back to life. Things can be hard in life, but who said that things being hard means that they’re bad? Just because something’s hard, sometimes marriage can be trying. I wouldn’t say hard for us.

[00:21:50.800]
But obviously we don’t did we don’t agree on everything We met are you sure we met here a couple weeks ago to record a podcast and we got into a discussion and We were like, you know what? I don’t think we should record this today No, let’s table this podcast and get in a better mindset together and we did.

[00:22:13.100]
Yes.

[00:22:13.600]
So like we have Our lives not perfect, I know no, yeah by far not but I do think we we get a we have a really great marriage now Obviously, we’re very intentional with that and we work hard at it and we work really hard in communicating with each other every day

[00:22:31.800]
Well, it’s just like these podcasts, you know, we have a lot of things going on. People are like, how do you have time to do that? And it’s like, well, we just schedule it. So it’s like, it’s like every Friday at like nine 30, usually it’s on the calendar every week. And, and we just block off usually an hour, an hour and a half to record a couple shows every Friday. Now today it’s freezing cold, the winds blowing, the heat wasn’t on in here. Like I’m cold sitting here. Uh, a lot of people would have said, man, the weather stinks and all that. Let’s just, nah, we’ll skip it.

[00:23:00.800]
If you guys don’t know, like, and obviously you don’t know, we record this podcast in an old house on our ranch. Nobody lives here. This is just a house that we use for like,

[00:23:12.500]
If we need a bathroom or we need a place to a little kitchen It’s just so this is a little room inside our farmhouse on the ranch and it’s cold in here. It’s cold I’m trying my sitting here guys sure there’s dead crickets on the ground because nobody lives here. Yeah, we got to clean them up Yeah, so look at the heaters running now It would have been easy today to be like it is cold in that house. Yeah, let’s not record a podcast Yeah, but we had this commitment and we knew if we didn’t record a podcast We wouldn’t have an episode and then we disappoint you guys and so We needed to record today.

[00:23:48.400]
Yeah, and so that’s just another example of a commitment in a how -to You put it on the calendar and you stick to your calendar and your appointments and that’s how it’s done How many do that? It’s not that hard because you’ve already

[00:24:01.000]
Done it. What I liked too is Craig on Craig Rochelle’s one of his podcasts. He talked about pre -deciding I don’t even remember what the podcast was about Craig Rochelle’s Mindset is so good, but it was like he was talking about the Predeciding and the way he just said it it just always just stuck with me It’s like if you made up in your mind you pre -decided whatever it is. You were gonna do you know? You got to do it because you already made the decision. It’s not well Do I want to do I not know you already had you already decided a while ago now you had you just have to do it and I like the way he phrased that it was really good.

[00:24:36.900]
Well, and it The thing that I think super helpful is to go through your calendar for the next month Like I can look at my calendar and see okay. Here’s what we’re doing every weekend your birthday’s coming up

[00:24:49.200]
So I look and see what are we doing the days surrounding your birthday. OK, we’re going to go ahead and put a dinner on this date, which is actually the day after your birthday, because we have wrestling on your birthday.

[00:25:01.000]
And we’re going to go to that Italian place, right?

[00:25:03.500]
A little hole in the wall place. Yes.

[00:25:04.600]
Oh, so good. Little hole in the wall in Guthrie, Oklahoma.

[00:25:09.500]
Roma’s. Is that what it’s called? Yeah. So we’re wrestling that Saturday. Actually, we have Daddy Daughter Dance that Friday night. Saturday night, we have wrestling and then the big kids have their little Valentine’s Day dance, which is on your birthday.

[00:25:22.000]
Yeah.

[00:25:22.400]
And so we’re going to go to your birthday celebration that Sunday because it’s open on Sundays. But I checked that already.

[00:25:28.400]
Right.

[00:25:28.700]
I made sure of that. I put it on the calendar and sent you the invite for that.

[00:25:32.800]
because if it’s on the calendar, it gets done. But I think where most people struggle is they wait until the week of something, and then they’re like, oh my gosh, we gotta do this, but we have no time, because you haven’t blocked that time off. But if you just look ahead at the month and what needs to get done, and you put it on the calendar, what matters to you, you’ll get done. And I think when you, people can see it when you don’t make time for them, because if you don’t schedule it, then it doesn’t get done, and then people often feel like they don’t have time for me. That’s not the case, but you gotta plan things. You gotta be diligent.

[00:26:15.500]
Yeah, you do and as a business owner sometimes too, you’ll have employees that are go in that other direction, right and they’re chatting all week long about how they could possibly not work on Friday or Hey, we might not work on Monday, you know, and it’s like a and it and like me and some of my managers like we have to fight that battle because You know They’re watching the news and the news is just talking about it, right?

[00:26:41.500]
And then they’re the Facebook’s talking about it and now they’re all talking about it and it’s like And you have to be like dude. We have a goals. We have customers to serve We have your paycheck relies on this, you know And as the bosses or the coaches of the team, however, you want to look at it we have to help their mindset and tell them like

[00:26:58.600]
You know, we’re gonna be here like stop thinking about that You know now if disaster strikes and we physically can’t be here So be it but it might not don’t plan for stop thinking about it like focus in the moment now Do a good job You know what I mean and be present and if that happens later it happens later and we’ll deal with it Well, a funny thing about that is you guys if I’m sure it’s like this everywhere But if they say a storm is coming they joke that like the milk and bread aisles are empty Yeah, and we’re seeing that one of our friends is Assistant plant manager at a local like large -scale dairy that we have in town Oh, yeah, and he told me the other day He’s like I hate it when they call for storms because we can’t keep up with milk production

[00:27:46.500]
Yeah, we cannot make enough milk.

[00:27:49.500]
I bet the company loves it because they’re selling out, you know But yeah makes them work harder.

[00:27:54.600]
I thought that was funny. But for us like hey, I got a grocery delivery yesterday I did not go crazy like stock yourself up get your essentials But some people buy like 18 loaves of bread. It’s like did you really need that?

[00:28:11.500]
Well, a lot of people don’t understand it’s like these news Networks and stuff. How do they make money? They make money on advertisers on the commercials other than that They don’t they don’t make money. That’s where their money comes from Well, the more they can hype it up the same thing with tornado season the more they can hype it up the more You’re gonna constantly check and the more ads get flashed on your phone and everything else. Well, that’s just driving revenue and

[00:28:35.300]
If you just understand that then you then you stop getting sucked in so bad and just chill out and just pay attention But see what happens, but don’t you know don’t don’t sacrifice lost work lost commitments all that thing for a what -if You know same thing we talked about this with churches closing now, too. Here’s the other part. I would give you like How do I say it like nicely or something like that Struggle for him sometimes Podcasting for me can be hard because I’m not the most politically correct person and so I have to I have to dial it back She’s like once this goes on the internet. There’s no telling but Send it to the internet. See what happened put a hash brown on it But uh, I’m like have a backbone and be okay with a little bit of pushback

[00:29:27.900]
don’t worry about it. Like, do the right thing. If, you know, if it might snow on Sunday, don’t shut the church down because some people might be mad that it snows and you are open. How about you just open and then whoever wants to come can come.

[00:29:44.700]
Right.

[00:29:45.300]
And whoever complains, just stay home.

[00:29:47.400]
You can make your own choices.

[00:29:49.000]
You know, one of my pastors, we joked about this over several years and when the snow’s pouring in and stuff, you know, we’re going to work and I’m sending them a video of us going to work and we’re Team No Snowflake and we kind of have inside jokes. Well, he texted me yesterday and he said, hey, just so you know, he said, if other churches shut down, there’s 100 % chance I will be speaking live at church and you’re welcome to come. And I’m like, my man, like…

[00:30:15.000]
We used to be in society so much tougher and not be worried about well Sally’s got her feelings hurt And she’s chirping in my ear because she’s upset. I’m just gonna cancel for everybody, you know Well, I’m tired of picking on Karen’s, you know, the Karen just We did hear that the other day from a friend of ours named Jessica like sorry Jessica Yeah, but how about you just say hey, you know Sally you’re upset that’s fine But 90 % of people over here aren’t so No big deal back to the mask thing in 2020 Oh many people bent to that.

[00:30:52.800]
Oh gosh, we could go into a whole rabbit hole Yes, we better not we better not do that, but it’s like

[00:30:59.000]
Just because some people are uncomfortable doesn’t mean the whole world needs to adjust to that Yeah, but we’ve gotten in a place of society that like whoever’s the loudest You know, that’s how you listen to and unfortunately the loudest most of the time in our world today is completely wrong and You listen to that you’re gonna be hurting in life in a lot of different areas And so I would just encourage you to have a backbone Do what’s right? Who cares what everybody else is saying? Do what’s right? Be a man And quit being weak. You know what I mean?

[00:31:34.700]
For sure. Yeah as a woman like I First of all, I want a strong man and I want a man who is

[00:31:44.100]
And I’m a really strong woman and that’s hard for us sometimes because I am But I want my husband to be stronger than me Physically and to like lead our family. Yeah, and I think as a woman I think women all women crave that they may not say that but I think that’s built into us So if you’re a man listening Maybe that will empower you that like we need men to be men Yeah, and we’re raising our boys to be men. Now, let me tell you our boys are weird in society today Okay, and one of our friends had told us the other day. He’s like You know, I tell people all the time that your boys are old school. Yeah old school That was the term they use your boys your family’s old school. Well, what does that mean?

[00:32:33.100]
And we take it as a compliment, and he means it as a compliment. He said, they don’t have video games. They don’t have phones. They work outside and cut down trees for fun. They do stuff for fun that most kids would consider like torture. But we’ve raised them in such a way that being outside is normal. Working with your hands is normal. Just being playing outside in the fort, even though some things might be dangerous, climbing high in trees, using those saws that they find outside. Like some of that is dangerous. I get that. But I also want them to be boys and to use their imagination and to play outside and get dirty.

[00:33:20.600]
That’s important and we’ve let that go and culture well that stem from a wrestling match and after the match Bowen had won the match and in wrestling You go shake the other coach’s hand the opposing guy’s hand and you know Bowen. I taught him several years ago When you shake another man’s hand you you stick your hand in hard, right? And you you’ve give a firm handshake and look the man in the eye and yes, sir. No, sir I don’t care what society says. Yes, sir. No, sir. Yes, ma ‘am. No, ma ‘am. That’s how we roll Yes, I do that too and we teach our daughter to do that and that coach had come over to me and said man I just got to tell you like a boy impressed me, you know he said he’s got a handshake like a man, you know, and I was this and he was giving him a compliment and stuff and

[00:34:14.700]
And then our friend was the one that stepped in and he goes, dude, they cut trees down for fun. Like all they do, they work on the farm and just, you know, it’s like, they’re just different, you know? And, and it was like, that was cool that they’re kind of seeing that. And it was cool for Bowen. Bowen actually heard it and he had a big old smile on his face. And, and it’s like, it takes a lot of intentionality to teach your kids how to be that way, because society will not do it. And they will take them the direction. When, when school gets canceled, sometimes like we, we have our kids go do things and be productive.

[00:34:47.800]
Well, once again, we don’t have video games.

[00:34:49.700]
Right.

[00:34:50.200]
We don’t, they do not have phones. So if they’re not now, do they watch TV? Yes. Like we are normal people. They do watch some TV. But a lot of times it’s, you know, they’re doing stuff.

[00:35:05.200]
reading, doing their workbooks for school. And then a lot of times, like you said, it’s, hey, you’re going outside to do this.

[00:35:11.800]
Yeah, they’ll go with John and go feed cows or help with fence or, you know, do something productive. It’s not like we’re sitting there making them work all day, but we’re trying to teach them to be productive. You know, one of the battles I have as an employer is, and I’m not dogging on the school system for this, I’m just saying this is the way it is. And if you’re a parent, that’s not helping your kids understand how the real world is when they get out of school, there’s a giant learning curve. And a lot of times it’s a tough one for the 18, 19, 20 year olds. You know, they’re used to going to school, right? And they, you go to school, what? Six months out of the year, by the time you take all the breaks out, whatever the number is.

[00:35:53.500]
and you’re off for everything. They’ll cancel easily because of snow days. That’s just the way the school is. But they get into workforce and they think that’s the way work is going to be. And I can just not show up today because I don’t feel like it. Or there’s Groundhog Day. We don’t go to school on Groundhog Day. Why are we working on Groundhog Day? I mean, I’m serious. And I’m like, well, I try to do that so I don’t offend nobody by these other holidays that the government just keeps making up. And before long, we’re going to have six months of paid holidays and nobody’s going to work. But anyway, I’ll get off my soapbox on that. But the kids come and we have to teach them what it’s like in the real world. That, no, you work 40 hours a week. The business relies on you. The customers rely on you. You can’t just not show up. And no, you don’t get a fall break. And that’s Thanksgiving break and a Christmas break when you’re working in the real world. That’s just not a thing.

[00:36:49.200]
So I’m just saying you’ve got to teach your kids that stuff and don’t let them get in the real world and get kind of smacked around and get fired a couple times before they figure it out you know.

[00:36:58.200]
That’s very true.

[00:36:59.600]
Yeah.

[00:36:59.800]
Well man we have been on tangents today I feel like.

[00:37:03.000]
You do an unpopular opinion this.

[00:37:04.900]
He’s like game on.

[00:37:06.200]
Game on.

[00:37:06.900]
So we’ve talked about don’t be a snowflake in life, business, your faith, and as examples for your kids.

[00:37:16.000]
Yes.

[00:37:17.200]
I think it’s not always easy but you can do hard things and you can overcome maybe the comfortable mindset that you’ve been in and you can get better. You can start today getting better and it will make a difference.

[00:37:32.200]
Yeah, you start living this away and making these kind of adjustments, keeping your commitments. When life throws you a curveball, you do what you had on your calendar anyway. You don’t cancel on people. Yes. You know, when there’s a snowstorm or whatever, you go anyway. You start living that way and you watch what happens and I promise you, you will, you know, life will reward you for it.

[00:37:56.500]
You’ll get ahead in life. People will say, how did you get here? It’s the little things. How do you do this? But I think it’s Craig Rochelle that says it’s the little things no one sees that add up to the big things.

[00:38:13.300]
that everybody wants.

[00:38:15.400]
Yep, very true.

[00:38:16.800]
And here we are.

[00:38:18.200]
Here we are, so.

[00:38:19.800]
Hope you guys enjoyed it. Hope you took some notes and I hope you’ll come back next time to listen.

[00:38:28.200]
Maybe we scared them all away.

[00:38:29.700]
Hope we didn’t scare you. We’ll see you next time.

[00:38:31.900]
Till next time.
